Permanent Waterproofing as the Foundation for Green Roofs
Planned, supported, solved. Berlin is booming: To keep pace with population growth—and especially to meet the needs of its youngest residents—the capital’s school system is being expanded. As part of this effort, the Modersohn Elementary School in Friedrichshain was relocated to a new site, which was recently expanded with an addition. In line with the city’s sustainability strategy, greenery was planted on the flat roof of the new building. Beneath this, a permanently effective waterproofing system was required to protect the structure from moisture. The liquid-applied Triflex ProDetail was used on all details, including 20 skylights. The material, based on polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), is applied with a nonwoven fabric insert. It is highly compatible with other building materials and offers excellent weather resistance. The Triflex ProDetail waterproofing system has an ETA rating (ETA No. 06/0269) with CE marking in the highest applicable usage categories: W3, M, and S; P1 through P4; S1 through S4; TL4; TH4; BROOF(t1), BROOF(t2), BROOF(t3), BROOF(t4).

Requirements for the Renovation
- Reliable protection against moisture ingress
- Seamless and joint-free waterproofing of the 20 skylights as well as exhaust vents, ventilation ducts, the elevator shaft, and square steel pipes for the air conditioning units
- High compatibility with other building materials
- High weather resistance
- Weather-independent application
